Dousing Firefighter Doster With Accolades
John Doster started
putting out fires as a 14-year-old in the 1930s
with the Edgely Fire Co. in Bristol Township
and hasn't stopped volunteering
since.Later this month, the National Volunteer Fire Council will honor Doster's nearly 75 years of service with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
Those 75 years include 25 as the Edgely chief, four as the Bristol Township fire marshal, several more as a deputy county fire marshal and a fire instructor for the county, 3M and Rohm and Haas.
Earlier this year, Doster was recognized as the oldest active volunteer in Pennsylvania by the state's Fire Police Association. But now he's being honored nationally as the longest-serving volunteer in America.

SINC SAYS:
Wow, that is some kind of service to his community. Somehow small town North America attracts that kind of dedication, unlike city fire departments who are all about unions.
