DAY OUT PERKS FOR PERVERTS ATTACKED

FURY erupted last night over plans to send convicted paedophiles and rapists on trips to the cinema and art galleries.

The scheme will cost taxpayers £12,000 for every pervert signed up for the “ridiculous jolly outings”.

They will be assigned “friends” and can look forward to meals out and afternoons at the pictures.

Police and probation officers hope the project will help offenders – including dangerous child abusers – be rehabilitated to rejoin society.

On release from prison high-risk convicts will be allocated a circle of “friends” who are there to guide them away from re-offending.

But Michele Elliott, of child protection charity Kidscape, said: “If we’re paying for these outings, that’s ridiculous. 

“Sex offenders are manipulative and cunning. I worry well-intentioned friends supporting them could be duped.”

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, which is to pilot the scheme,  said: “Our chief aims are to protect the public and prevent re-offending.”
