Brett Favre Traded to New York Jets

Brett Favre's time in Green Bay is over but he will be writing a new chapter to his career with the New York Jets.
Both the Jets and the Green Bay Packers confirmed late Wednesday night that the veteran quarterback was dealt to New York. While the exact compensation taht the Packers will receive from New York is not officially known, it's believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending on how the Jets perform in the 2008 season.
The NFL Network adds that the fourth-round pick will become a third-round pick if Favre takes 50 percent of total snaps with the Jets this coming season. If he takes 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, the pick becomes a second-round pick. If Favre he takes 80 percent of the snaps and the Jets get to the Super Bowl, it would become a first-round pick.
"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform," New York Jets Chairman and CEO Woody Johnson said in a statement. "He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible team on the field. Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process. I am excited about welcoming Brett, Deanna and their family to the Jets organization."
An hour after the deal, Favre's No. 4 jersey went on sale on the Jets' website.
"We just felt like this was an opportunity to go get somebody of Brett's stature and what he's accomplished," Jets GM Tannenbaum said in a conference call early Thursday. "We felt it was in the best interest of the team, and when the opportunity presented itself, we felt it was the right move for us to make and we went ahead and did it."
Packers CEO and president Mark Murphy and general manager Ted Thompson also issued a statement.
