The Loss Of My Fishin' Buddy Skruff

This week I thought I would reminisce about the very recent passing of my little fishin' buddy, Skruff.
Skruff and I went all over western Canada fishing and camping. He was always with me.
Euthanasia sounds like a very hard thing to do, but it is better for the comfort of your pet.
It started out as a rough weekend, as I knew the end was coming for him. It turned out to be a positive experience for me.
The ER Vet clinic downtown Edmonton is very well prepared for Euthanasia. The room I sat in was soft lighting with couch and a chair. They did not want me to hurry and there is no rush.
My little Barkermatic was happy and relaxed as the process continued. The passing happened within two seconds as I held him against my chest stroking his head.
For those who are afraid of this there is no reason to feel that way.
I would like to thank the Edmonton Er Vet Clinic for taking such good care of Skruff.
Rest in Peace My Little Fishin' Buddy.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Women From Wales
03/03/2012 03:26

They both had strong accents so I said, "Hi, are you two girls from Scotland?"
One of them chirped "It's WALES you friggin' idiot!"
So, I immediately apologized and said "Sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?"

* Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks.. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.
* Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely scent in each room when the light is turned on.

Seeing Double - Life's A Bichon

The Don,
Look who we found (above) by the canal when we were in Hawaii! His name is "Bam" and, of course, he is a two-year-old male Bichon Frise, just like our Magoo here at home. We stopped and petted him all up and just like Magoo, he completely just lapped up all of the attention. What a wonderful disposition Bichons have.
Cheers,
Jim Starko

A Lesson In Firepower
02/03/2012 03:16
Think not? Read on . . .
On Bud's Gun Shop Forums the question came up: What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?
The best answer:
My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in .22 short. Over all the years I've been hiking I never leave without it in my pocket.
Of course, we all know the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the "Buddy System." For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this it means you never hike alone. You bring a friend or companion, even an in-law. That way, if something happens, there is someone to go get help.
I remember one time hiking with my brother-in-law in northern Alberta. Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man, was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs.
Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I'd sure not be here today. Just one shot to my brother-in-law's kneecap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace.

New RCMP Detachment Commander Named
Kevin Murray is the new Detachment Commander for St. Albert. The anticipated start date of Inspector Murray is April 2012.
“We are extremely honoured to have Inspector Murray come to Alberta to lead the RCMP in St. Albert,” says Chris Jardine, Acting City Manager. “Inspector Murray is a well-respected officer, brings a wealth of experience to his role and is excited to get involved in our community and work with our residents.”
“Public safety is a cornerstone of strong, vibrant and progressive Canadian cities like St. Albert,” says Inspector Murray. “I am honoured to have been chosen to take the helm and lead the dedicated members and staff of St. Albert Detachment. This appointment is, without doubt, the highlight of my 23 year career in the RCMP. I look forward to connecting with the citizens of St. Albert as we collectively tackle community safety challenges that many communities face.”
Murray is a 23-year veteran of the RCMP, with his latest post as Staff Sergeant in Port Alberni, B.C. Murray takes over from Inspector Warren Dosko, who held the post for almost five years before moving to become Superintendent with the RCMP in Red Deer last November. In October 2011, RCMP made a call for qualified applicants, which was followed by a rigorous screening process. Interviews were conducted in November 2011 with RCMP supervisors and City officials selecting the appropriate candidate. Inspector Murray’s starting date will be announced once his relocation arrangements are worked out.
Murray grew up on a farm near Carman, Manitoba, approx. 50 miles southwest of Winnipeg, MB. He was sworn into the RCMP at Winnipeg, MB on February 20, 1989. He was posted to E Division (B.C.) out of training and spent the majority of his 23 years service there. His postings include Prince George (1989), McBride (1993), Kimberley (1996), Gold River (2002), Port Alice (Cpl, 2005) and Port Alberni Detachment (Sgt./S/Sgt., 2008). He was also posted to RCMP Training Academy, Regina, SK in 2004 and facilitated in Applied Police Sciences for almost a year before returning to E Division.

Children Writing About the Ocean
01/03/2012 00:36

2) - I'm not going to write about the ocean. My baby brother is always crying, my Dad keeps yelling at my Mom, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. - (Amy, age 6)
3) - Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves in to chargers. - (Christopher, age 7)
4) - When you go swimming in the ocean, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. - (Kevin, age 6)
5) - Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Divers can't go down alone, so they have to go down on each other. - (Becky, age 8)
6) - On vacation my Mom went water skiing. She fell off when she was going very fast. She says she won't do it again because water fired right up her big fat ass. - (Julie, age 7)
7) - The ocean is made up of water and fish. Why the fish don't drown I don't know. - (Bobby, age 6)
8) - My dad was a sailor on the ocean. He knows all about the ocean. What he doesn't know is why he quit being a sailor and married my mom. - (James, age 7)
