The Things One Learns, Sometimes The Hard Way
28/01/2012 03:18

Did you know that starting your newer vehicle while it is still plugged in can cause the check engine light to come on and remain on until reset?
I learned that on a recent cold morning. The car seemed to run fine but I was concerned about the check engine light. The technician gave me the long version about why that would happen, but the short form is, it costs about $140 to learn this the hard way.
So please recommend to readers that they unplug before starting their vehicles.
BTW that bit about not having winter tires causing cars to travel so slowly on icy roads? The problem is a) lack of experience and b) automatic transmissions. Ask cabbies (and other professional drivers). They run on all-season tires without a problem.
